A meeting between the two was arranged for Monday but Hoddle failed to turn up. He cited a family issue as the reason behind his not showing up.
"I had an unexpected call from Glenn Hoddle and he told me he was resigning with immediate effect.," Moxey told the clubs official website.
"I asked him to reconsider but he said his mind was made up.
However, he did agree to meet with me on Monday and we will issue a further statement in due course."
