"It's always cruel to go out on penalties and we looked like we were going to win it until their keeper made a good save from Karl Henry," he said after the game at Saltergate.

"I feel for poor Jody Craddock, he's been fantastic in all the games and he had another great match, so arguably the man of the match misses the penalty that decides it." He added: "This game has told me more about what we haven't got and cannot do than what we have got and can do.

"But I still think the team that is out there should have been capable of winning the game.

"They caused us more problems than we caused them and we were not as much of a threat as they were."
