McCarthy approves Doyle for Ireland

The 27-year-old suffered knee ligament damage while on international duty in March and has only just returned to fitness, but former Republic boss McCarthy will not try and stop Doyle from playing against Northern Ireland and Scotland in the Carling Nations Cup or the Euro 2012 qualifier with Macedonia.

He told Press Association Sport: "I'm happy for Doyley to go with Ireland, of course I am."

He added: "They've got two what I would call friendlies (in the Carling Nations) and then Macedonia in the qualifier.

"That gives them a couple of games to get him right and then use him for the qualifier and I have no problem with that.

"Listen, I've no issue with him getting the injury when on international duty.

"He's a Wolves and Ireland player isn't he? He's an Irish international and I've no problem whatsoever.

"If he ever leaves Wolves, he's still an Ireland player."

Wolves had failed to win during Doyle's absence until last weekend's triumph over West Brom at Molineux.
