Wolves striker Kevin Doyle has revealed captain Karl Henry apologised to his team-mates for being sent off in the 2-0 defeat at Wigan on Saturday.Henry was shown a red card after 11 minutes at the DW Stadium for a wild lunge on midfielder Jordi Gomez.

Doyle told BBC WM: "He [Karl] has apologised for being sent off.

"We're going to have times during the season when we're down to 10 men. We looked like we could cope with it but a quality free-kick was the difference."

Henry has been no stranger to controversy this season, having been involved in a series of physical exchanges with Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton when the teams met at Molineux in August.

He was then involved in the challenge which broke the leg of Fulham striker Bobby Zamora on 11 September, although he was exonerated of any blame for the injury.

Gomez recovered from the tackle to score the opening goal mid-way through the second half with a stunning set-piece, before Hugo Rodallega sealed a comfortable victory for the Latics late on.

Wolves are, along with West Ham, bottom of the Premier League table with five points from seven matches.

The two sides are due to meet at Molineux after the international break on 16 October.

Doyle added: "West Ham will be a big game, but then the one after that will be a big game. Every one we played last season seemed to be a big game.

"It will be a home game for us, a good chance to put this behind us and get back to winning ways."
