Will We Survive?

Last updated : 11 March 2002 By Steve Hermon

I know we haven’t made it yet, but I was just thinking, the squad we have right now, Is it good enough to survive in the Premiership?

Let’s have a look…

Michael Oakes

When I saw him play for Aston Villa I thought he did a safe job. A great shot-stopper and definitely under-rated.

GOOD ENOUGH: YES

Kevin Muscat

I think that the Australian has the skill and the reputation to make it in the top division, but he is out of contract in the summer and may fancy a move north of the border to Rangers.

GOOD ENOUGH: YES

Mo Camara

I am gripped by Super Mo Fever right now and I think he does deserve to be ahead of Lee Naylor on merit but I sadly think the man from Guinea lacks the quality to succeed at the highest level. Imagine him vs. Beckham next season!

GOOD ENOUGH: NO

Paul Butler

Our captain is definitely solid but is getting on and will struggle to keep up with the likes of Owen, Anelka and Henry.

GOOD ENOUGH: NO

Joleon Lescott

A great player for his age. Prone to the odd mistake and will have to cut that out if he wants to step up the England ranks. Despite his inexperience I think he can make it.

GOOD ENOUGH: YES

Ludovic Pollet

I have felt sorry for Ludo, as he has sat on the bench all season, through no fault of his own. If it weren’t for Lescott and Butler’s form he’d be in there straight away. A great composed yet solid defender. Given a bit part I think he can make it.

GOOD ENOUGH: YES

Lee Naylor

Showed promise last season, being named our player of the year and moving into the England U-21 ranks but has tailed off dramatically this season and lost his place to Mo Camara. On his day he can be a good player but he is too inconsistent.

GOOD ENOUGH: NOT YET

Sean Newton

He has been quality this season. Didn’t get much of a chance in the Premiership with Charlton, but I think he is good enough to cause Premiership defenders problems.

GOOD ENOUGH: YES

Mark Kennedy

Many people have said to me that he is not a Premiership player. I think that on his day he can be a quality player, as he is showing right now. I’d like to disagree with those who say he isn’t a Top league player and say he will make it.

GOOD ENOUGH: YES

Alex Rae

The tough Scotsman has been a rock in our midfield since his arrival from Sunderland. Despite his age (and thinning hair) I think he can battle well with the likes of Viera and Keane.

GOOD ENOUGH: FOR A COUPLE MORE YEARS AT LEAST

Colin Cameron

Another Scotsman in the ranks, but the attacking midfielder seems to have lost his form lately and his struggling to stay in the side with Andrew's right behind him. If in form I think he can do the job in the Premier League.

GOOD ENOUGH: YES, IF IN FORM.

Keith Andrews

I don't think he will be able to compete at the top level just yet, but the young Irishman will be a good player in years to come in my opinion.

GOOD ENOUGH: NOT YET

Carl Robinson

The Welsh International, who is out of contract in the summer, seems to have disappeared lately. Once Alex Rae was signed he eventually lost his place and then took a seat on the bench. He does have the skill to succeed but only as a bit part player in my opinion. He is still young ands I hope he signs a new contract.

GOOD ENOUGH: YES

Dean Sturridge

The Birmingham-born striker proved to be a handful when in the Premiership in Derby's first two seasons in the top flight, and I think he could do the same again with Wolves if he is given the service from midfield. This is why I think he failed at Leicester.

GOOD ENOUGH: YES

Nathan Blake

This guy seems to have found his form once again recently, and if in form I think he can still cause a problem for Premiership defences.

GOOD ENOUGH: YES

Kenny Miller

The £3 million buy from Rangers hasn't had a look-in yet since making his Molineux move permanent. This is of course through no fault of his own. The pacy striker is definitely a quality player already but still needs a few more years to mature as a player. A season in the top flight will do him no harm.

GOOD ENOUGH: ALMOST THERE

George Ndah

I think in parts the former Swindon forward could give Premiership defenders a bit of trouble but he may be a little out of his depth against the bigger teams.

GOOD ENOUGH: MAYBE

That is the general squad of players. There is of course player like Cedric Roussel, Adam Proudlock, and Michael Branch and of course Robert Taylor, but I don't think any of these will even get a look-in next season so they weren't worth evaluating.

The next game for Wolves is at home against Grimsby Town. The relegation-threatened side has found form recently with some great results under the management of Albion reject Paul Groves. Despite them finding form and us having two draws in a row, I think we will get back to winning ways at a hopefully packed out Molineux.

C'mon Wolves! We aren't up yet; we cannot avoid to lose focus! Let's keep it going!
