Wolverhampton 2-1 Derby- Match Report

George Saville double delight as Wolves see off DerbyWolves midfielder George Saville's first two goals for the club halted a three-match losing run and condemned promotion-chasing Derby to a 2-1 defeat.Saville gave Wolves a 14th-minute lead in the Sky Bet Championship clash before Chris Martin equalised on the stroke of half-time.But Saville's 86th-minute header gave Wolves their first win in eight games to deal a blow to Derby's hopes of climbing into the Barclays Premier League.Derby had arrived at Wolves after back-to-back wins but were unable to capitalise on their dominance of the ball.Jacob Butterfield, who scored Derby's winner in Wednesday's 1-0 victory against Blackburn, tried to inject some life into a low-key opening when he tested Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme in the fifth minute. After being picked out by Chris Martin, Butterfield curled in a low drive from the edge of the area but Ikeme was more than equal to the task as he collected the shot just inside his near post.Derby had looked the side most likely to break the deadlock but they were stunned when Saville, making just his 16th appearance following his arrival from Chelsea in August 2014, struck with a neat finish.Winger Nathan Byrne cut in from the right wing and rolled a pass into the path of Saville, who rolled a low left-footed shot beyond the outstretched right hand of goalkeeper Scott Carson from just inside the penalty area.Saville's day then turned briefly sour when he had a hand in Derby's equaliser.Saville was adjudged by referee Graham Scott to have fouled Bradley Johnson just outside the penalty area.Martin, who had found chances hard to come by until this point in proceedings, skilfully lifted the ball over the Wolves wall and saw his shot leave Ikeme flat-footed.Wolves looked to mount a swift response but Bjorn Sigurdarson's drive in stoppage time flew just over Carson's crossbar.Derby's interim manager Darren Wassall tried to add some more potency to his side 10 minutes into the second half when he sent on striker Andreas Weimann and winger Tom Ince to replace Johnny Russell and George Thorne. The move almost paid instant dividends on the hour when Ince latched on to Bradley Johnson's pass and saw his curling shot drop just the wrong side of the post.Ince then repaid the compliment by teeing up Johnson in the 67th minute, only for Ikeme to comfortably save a weak shot.Wolves had struggled to test Carson in the second period, but in a rare moment of attacking intent they were denied by the width of the post.Sigurdarson found himself unmarked just outside the penalty area in the 82nd minute and saw his low bobbling shot beat Carson only to bounce to safety off the goal frame.Derby should have heeded that warning but failed to do so and were stunned when Matt Doherty's left-wing cross picked out Saville whose towering header flew past Carson for the winner
