Wolverhampton 1-2 Preston- Match Report

Paul Gallager helps Preston beat Wolves at MolineuxPaul Gallagher produced a classy finish to help Preston secure a 2-1 Sky Bet Championship win over Wolves at Molineux.Gallagher lifted the ball over Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme in the 17th minute to put Preston in control before Adam Reach grabbed a decisive second goal in the 53rd minute.Wolves reduced the arrears through substitute Joe Mason in the 66th minute but Preston ended their hopes of completing a comeback to keep their own impressive run going.In-form Preston have now taken 17 points from their last eight games.Kenny Jackett's Wolves, meanwhile, have not won any of their last five Championship games -collecting just three points from a possible 15.They were booed off the pitch at both half-time and full-time and angry fans called for the head of chief executive Jez Moxey.Preston were inches away from making the perfect start after just three minutes.Reach made great strides down the right wing and his cross picked out Joe Garner at the near post.Garner looked set to pounce at the near post only for a last-ditch challenge from Ethan Ebanks-Landell to deny him.Garner was injured in the process but was able to continue after treatment.Having survived that early scare, Wolves then probed themselves but Bjorn Sigurdarson saw his close-range shot blocked. But it was Preston who looked the most likely side to break the deadlock in the early exchanges and that proved to be the case when Gallagher struck.Gallagher, who moments earlier had fired just over the bar, raced on to a pass from Garner and lobbed the ball over the advancing Ikeme from the edge of the six-yard box.As well as having to deal with falling behind, Wolves also lost winger James Henry to injury at the same time, but his replacement Nathan Byrne came close to dragging them back on level terms in the 27th minute.Byrne curled his 25 yard free-kick around the Preston wall only to see the ball cannon to safety off a post.Preston took full advantage of that let-off to double their advantage at the start of the second half.Wolves were undone down the right flank when Calum Woods sent over a cross - Ikeme punched the ball away but unfortunately for Wolves it fell straight to Reach who made no mistake with a neat finish from 10 yards. That sparked fury from a section of the Wolves fans who turned their ire towards Moxey. But Mason then gave the Wolves fans something to cheer about when he latched on to Conor Coady's pass and took the ball around goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard before placing his low shot into an empty net.It proved to be a false dawn for Wolves, however, with their angry fans making their displeasure perfectly clear at the end of the game
