Will Miller rescues point for Burton with stoppage-time equaliser at Wolves
Will Miller rescued a dramatic point for Burton with a stoppage-time equaliser in a 1-1 Sky Bet Championship draw against Wolves at Molineux.
Wolves had looked set to collect a hard-earned win when Prince Oniangue scored his first goal for the club in the 77th minute.
But Miller earned Burton a share of the spoils in the fourth minute of stoppage time when he turned home a cross from Lloyd Dyer.
It was a well-deserved point for Burton who extended their unbeaten run in the Championship to four games.
Before Oniangue struck they had created the better chances and should have taken the lead when Lucas Akins saw his weak 20th-minute penalty saved by Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme.
Wolves' boss Walter Zenga made seven changes to the side that had started their last game against Huddersfield and the new-look team struggled to gel.
Wolves thought that they had made the perfect start to the game when debutant striker Paul Gladon, who was making his bow after his arrival from the Dutch club Heracles Almelo, had the ball in the net in the 12th minute.
But Gladon's effort was ruled out for his challenge on goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin who had spilled a cross from Helder Costa while under pressure from the Dutchman.
Having ridden their luck to stay on level terms, Burton should really have cashed in when they were awarded their penalty.
Wolves central defender Richard Stearman, who was making his second debut for the club after his return on loan from Fulham, was ruled by referee James Adcock to have handled a cross from Matty Palmer.
It was a perfect opportunity for Akins to give Burton the lead, but his spot-kick was weak and the perfect height for Ikeme who palmed the ball away.
In the first ever competitive meeting between the two sides, Championship new boys Burton were far from overawed by the challenge of facing their more illustrious opponents.
They were inches away from breaking the deadlock when Lloyd Dyer's low left-wing cross whistled just past the outstretched right foot of Akins at the far post.
Wolves struggled to really pose a threat of their own in the first half but did finally get a shot on target when Ivan Cavaleiro, who was making his debut following his B#7m move from Monaco, tested McLaughlin with a curling shot from just inside the penalty area.
But it was Burton who continued to press after half-time with Jackson Irvine flashing a header over the bar and substitute Hamza Choudhury dragging his shot narrowly wide.
It seemed inevitable that failing to take the chances would cost Burton and that is what happened after they lost out following a goalmouth scramble.
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson eventually forced the ball into the path of Oniangue who lashed his shot home from six yards.
It looked enough to seal all three points before Miller's late, late intervention.
