Wolves to go up as champions

Last updated : 28 February 2002 By Dave Burgess

Great news for Wolves fans as we are not only going to get promotion but we are just going to edge Man City to the championship as well.

I've been looking into my crystal ball to come up with points predictions for the current top 10 teams to see where, in my opinion, everyone will be after the final whistles are blown April 21st.

The deciding factor between Wolves and Man City will be the outcome of the showdown between the sides at the Molineux on April 1st when the two promotion favorites do battle.

Given Wolves’ white-hot current form, I’m banking on Dave Jones’s gold and black army to come out on top and bag all three points. However, it will be a nail biting last day victory at Hillsborough that will bring the championship back to the trophy cabinet in the Billy Wright stand.

There is still a lot to play for as all of the teams in the top 10 still have to play a minimum of four matches against opposition vying for the same automatic and play-off places they covet.

However, spare a thought for Portsmouth in all this. Struggling at the wrong end of the table they still have to face no less than 6 of the top 10 before the season is over.

I also predict a miserable end to the season for Burnley as they slide out of the
play-offs and finish in the dreaded 7th place.

The play-offs will be contested between

West Brom v Coventry

Millwall v Birmingham

Here are my predicted final standings
