Wolves sign Marshall as goalkeeping cover

Last updated : 12 November 2003 By Dave Burgess

Wolves have finally resolved their worrying lack of goalkeeping cover by signing Andy Marshall on loan from Ipswich.

With Matt Murray unlikely to be fully fit until Christmas, Marshall gives us an experienced keeper just in case Oakes suffers an injury.

Marshall was a great young keeper at Norwich but got ahead of himself. By taking a free transfer to local rivals Ipswich he thought he was taking a step up when the Tractor Boys gained promotion to the Premier league.

However, things have backfired somewhat and he saw his chances blocked by the arrival of Matt Sereni from Italy and is now second fiddle to Kelvin Davis.

I’m pretty sure that he was offered a free transfer but has stayed on to try and resurrect his career. Perhaps if we suffer further injuries to either keeper and are unable to land Carlos Kameni, Marshall could even come in on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

However, I wouldn’t let this you worry you as he’s proved his quality previously and will see this as an opportunity to escape from Ipswich even if it’s not eventually to us.
