Where are the signings?

3 weeks from being promoted, 9 weeks from the opening game of the season – signings 0 and by the way were also told that Dave Jones is on a month long holiday!

Seems strange to me that with the most important ever season in front of us that all we hear coming out of the Molineux is about ‘lists’ being compiled.

We have already seen transfer activity at Portsmouth and Leicester though.

It’s not exactly a secret that we need at least 5 new players to boost the squad for the Premiership campaign.

We’ve seen evidence of Wolves’s intentions to raise the funds, with ticket prices being increased by a minimum of £10 on a match basis for an adult. However, we’ve not seen where our money is going as yet.

Sure, these things take time. Players are on their summer holidays at this time but player’s agents are always working to make their cut of a transfer or signing-on fee. However, we’ve not even heard agents mention that Wolves have approached their client.

We’ve had limited media speculation too. Perhaps even the press can’t find anything to fill their column inches when it comes to the Premiership new boys.

Considering it’s going to be some tough task to convince ‘quality’ players to join us, when the odds are stacked against us lasting more than one season, you’d have thought Moxey would be working 25 hours a day.

The first signing surely must signal the clubs ambitions and intent for next season. I think Albion’s first signing last season was Ronnie Wallwork from Man United. A similar scenario for us would surely send out a message to ‘other’ targets that we’re not going for it guns blazing.

It’s also a dangerous balancing act. Over commit resources to one or two high wage earners and we could do a Bradford or Coventry.

However, you have to take the calculated risk. We can benefit from the refusal of the majority of clubs to now meet the astronomical wages that were being touted a few years ago.

However, a ‘quality’ player is going to be looking to pick up a seven-figure salary on an annual basis.

We have to have at least one or two new players on board come the end of the June. Pre-season training will re-commence and pre-season friendlies start once again. It takes a professional a while to settle into their new surroundings and work with a group of players, the majority of which, haven’t tasted action at the highest level to date.

The majority of our current squad who have, are on the wrong side of their careers.

Come on Jonesy and Moxey – let’s see how serious you are..
