We're down on our luck as well.

How Kevin Phillips can have the gaul not to have held his hands up and admitted he dived or fell of his own accord on Saturday is beyond me.

The media was full of criticism from Portsmouth players for the way in which Robert Pires ‘earned’ his penalty but Phillips was in a different class.

He could only have been more isolated if he’d been standing on the moon. Denis Irwin was nowhere near him when Phillips went over.

It should have been a yellow card, but instead it was a penalty.

The second goal confirmed just why Jones had been seeking a third keeper. Our own current third choice, from the two keepers we have, was beaten whilst trying to decide how the save would look on the TV. Well Mr Oakes, it looked pretty awful to the Wolves fans who saw us slip to our fourth Premiership defeat in just five games.

The
4-5-1 formation isn’t going to yield goals and with woeful refereeing and poor goalkeeping the task isn’t going to get any easier.

Worryingly we didn’t see the introduction of Hassan Kachloul. Surely Cameron was due for a rest with his recent poor form and two international trips during the week?

Also taken away from us was Henri Camara having partaken in a truly meaningless trip all the way over to
Japan for an international friendly. With the squad so wafer thin in terms of fitness and ability this is the sort of thing we just can’t afford to happen.

Also again noticeably absent were the majority of summer signings made by Jones. Therefore, it was more or less the backbone of the division one side being asked to step up to one of the harder to beat teams in the division. The same result as last year’s cup defeat seems to indicate that we are what we were then – a decent division one side.

Jones seems to be increasingly misquoted. One minute he’s stating that injuries to key players are undermining the team’s results. The next minute he refuses to blame injuries and believes the squad available to him isn’t performing.

Then we hear of Moxey and Jones plotting details for when the transfer window re-opens in January. Perhaps they should concentrate on where the first three points are coming from instead.

Fans are already looking well down the fixture list to even contemplate a precious three point game.

This Saturday certainly looks like it’s going to be a lesson in football. Then we travel to our old ‘friends’ at the Reebok but they seem to have gotten their act together. After that and it’s
Man City who have kicked on since being promoted two seasons ago.

Therefore, it could be one point from eight games.

What will Jones and Moxey then come up with to quell the fans anger and disappointment at our much vaunted first attempt at the Premiership?
