Prepare for one hell of a battle.

Well this is THE crunch game.

Even Radio One on the drive in to work this morning, described it as ‘The mutha of all games’.

Quite simply, whoever loses is seriously looking at the relegation trapdoor. The winner, if there is one, will live to fight on in the quest for 17th place or above.

This is a must win game for both teams.

Leeds, have lost the last seven games, starting with the 3-1 defeat at Molineux on December 28th. They’ve scored the least goals at home in the Premiership, a paltry nine in twelve games. They’ve recorded the fewest points at home of any team in the division as well. Their off the field problems are well documented. However, playing at Elland Road, is never an easy task, regardless of the plight they find themselves in.

As of this morning, the fixture hasn’t sold out. Tickets are still available for home fans but we snapped up our paltry 1700 allocation with hunger. I’m very lucky. Being an away season ticket holder, I was guaranteed a ticket. Add to this that I’m currently working in Leeds and the fixture couldn’t be any more convenient for me. I drive past Elland Road every morning and looked over in anticipation of the on field events in just under 11 hour’s time.

So what can we expect tonight?

Well I think the first goal will be crucial. Leeds opened the scoring at the Molineux but Wolves have the tenacity to turn things round at home. However, lacking that first away win means the psychology is different when we concede away. A Leeds goal would boost the home crowd and make it even harder to come back.

Leeds still possess quality players. Alan Smith, despite his farcical own goal at Molineux, was still their best player on the day. Pennant caused Naylor all sorts of problems and Viduka still knows where the goals are. Bakke is useful, Milner is dangerous so they have a real threat. However, the defence is definitely weak. They’ve brought in Caldwell on loan and dropped captain Matteo back from midfield but they are vulnerable.

As for us well, that first half performance on Saturday was everything we need for the whole ninety minutes tonight. Tenacious, battling with dashes of quality and a goal.

Expect the same personnel to start tonight. I personally would prefer to see an orthodox right midfielder replace Miller. Kenny can’t play there and Irwin needs cover on the right. Miller seems to have let the two high-profile goals go to his head – perhaps he should realise he’s not one of Jones’s first choice strikers.

Camara seems unlikely to make it in time having been delayed by duties associated with Senegeal. Perhaps we should submit an invoice for his wages for the time he’s being paraded around his country with the team having come nowhere in the African Nations cup

Vio Ganea for me on Saturday was excellent. As well as knowing how to attack the number of times he won the ball back made him almost a fifth midfielder at times. His link up play with Cort promises to deliver goals and I think he could be the key man tonight.

If we do go for a more orthodox right midfielder then Kennedy and Cameron will have to provide the balls to unlock the Leeds defence.

We’re going to need all the big game experience of Irwin, Rae, Craddock, Butler and Jones tonight to help the others with their nerves and edginess.

I’ve got my fingernails at the ready.

It’s one we can win – however, doing it is another matter. I daren’t predict the score but I think it will be close and go right to the final whistle. With Portsmouth facing Chelsea at home and Leicester entertaining an in-form Bolton there has never been a better chance to close that gap on two of the other teams that are serious relegation candidates. Let’s just hope we can do it.

Come on the Wolves!
