One more point - but three were there for the taking

Wolves only managed 5 on-target goal attempts in the whole of the 90 minutes on Saturday.

Considering the amount of possession that we had, this is very disappointing.

For me there seemed to be a lack of responsibility on the player's part to take the initiative and take shots regardless of the outcome.

If you don't attempt to shoot you are very unlikely to score from other means.

The overall performance was much better than the one we registered against Grimsby. It had to be as Norwich proved themselves to be very
organised, who again seemed to soak up pressure with the aim to catch us on the break.

The starting lineup had three changes: Pollet in for Butler, Ndah in for Kennedy and Miller replacing Sturridge. All three of these a result of need over choice.

It was almost a perfect start as Miller showed great control but unfortunately a poor finish with the first Wolves attack. However, Norwich soon shut down any forward play that Wolves managed and did themselves almost score but Oakes pulled off a great save from Esaton.

The referee wasn't adding to the spectacle. He seemed to determined to use his whistle and frustrate the players and fans alike with some really poor decisions. One of these being the booking of Newton. From my perfect position in the Jack Harris you could see the trip was totally accidental.

However, it does have to be said that the longer the game went on the less likely Wolves seemed to score. There was a final charge in the last few minutes of the game but a succession of corners failed to yield the goal that Wolves so desperately needed.

With Norwich defending very deep, Mackay coping admirably with Blake and co., the wing play of Newton and especially Ndah left a lot to be desired. Miller reverted to an almost midfield position in the second half meaning that any attacks lacked bodies in the box making it easy for Norwich to clear their lines.

In fact it could have been much worse except for an international quality last-gasp tackle by Ludo on Nielsen when the forward seemed to destined to score in the second half. However, Ludo was again to pay for his bravery when he received a nasty gash on his head when trying to bundle home a corner and was to take no more part in the game.

Wolves' fans did make a lot of noise to try and rouse the team into getting that vital breakthrough goal, but towards the end the nerves took over and the noise abated.

Personally I thought that Ndah and Miller were both poor. Perhaps it is lack of match practice but Camara should have replaced Ndah on the left wing and Miller was far too deep leaving Blake isolated. Ludo played well as ever but will be out with another head injury for a week or two I would expect. Rae was man of the match, as usual, but even he could not turn the key.

Dave Jones has stated that we are 1 point nearer to the target. However, trying a similar line on friends in the pub afterwards provided little solace with arch-rivals Albion getting all three the night before at Forest.

The gap could now be as little as 3 points with 5 games to go.

Looking at the two sets of fixtures, you can see that points gap being narrowed further.

It is vital that we win at Burnley on Saturday. It can be done, we will need the likes of Sturridge fit as well as a 110% effort from all involved to get the result but we've done it before this season.

Keep the faith!!
