It really was GRIM on Saturday

Well you can't say that I didn't warn you on Friday that it wouldn't be a matter of just turning up!

However, I don't think that the fans were prepared for seeing the bad old Wolves of previous seasons on Saturday.

It was a poor performance by the lads, summed up by Muscat being sent off early in the 2nd half. It was annoying that Muscat, who had been playing well in the last few weeks, had to return to his violent ways to reduce us to 10 men. He caused controversy with an elbowing incident at the start of the match but this went unpunished. Second time round he made sure he got his man - No.35, right in front of the referee.

Fair play to Grimsby they were the better team in the 1st half and should have been in the lead if it hadn't been for a piece of terrible finishing by Bradley Allen.

Wolves were struggling to get any sort of passing movement together and Grimsby's midfield was worryingly in the ascendancy. After being reduced to ten men I thought the game was destined to be goalless. Newton was unlucky with a great run and shot but chances were few and far between for either side.

However, it was a goal from a corner that undid us.

The players looked short of confidence and ideas for some reason. I do think that the weight of expectancy has led to a tension we've not had so far this season. With the finishing post in sight the players seem to be inhibited and nervous, making mistakes that are not the ‘norm'.

It was a bad day at the office all round.

3 points lost, Muscat banned for probably three matches and Kennedy going off with a groin injury that may rule him out of the next few games.

Add to this that we've got some very tough fixtures to come and we need Jonesy to use all his experience and man-management to get the lads fired up for this weekends match with Norwich.

However, we will still have a minimum 5 point lead over Albion with only 6 games to go – however, it looks like it's going to go to the wire at Hillsborough on the last Sunday of the season.

Let's keep our nerve and show the form we did in February and blast away the jitters and get the promotion party back on track.
