Irwin to sign for a year

Wolves are going to end their search for a right back replacement this morning by signing Dennis Irwin on a free from Manchester United.

Wolves have been searching for a replacement for Kevin Muscat, who went in the summer to Ibrox, and now they have plumped for the experience of Irwin.

Personally, I think it is a step backwards as Irwin will be 37 in October and his best days are long gone. We could have stuck with Gunnar Halle for less money.

However, Jones seems intent on trying the Dalglish (Blackburn) formula of experience to get a Division 1 team into the Premiership.

We all saw at the end of last season, to our horror, that when push comes to shove these 'experienced' players on large salaries don't have the appetite for the job.

With only Ingimarrson the other addition to the squad over the summer it remains to be seen if this is enough to bolster the squad into the Premiership.

Fingers crossed - you never know !
