First win of the season on the cards?

Well it's not a fixture that's expected to bring in the crowds but for those who go along to the Molineux tonight, it might be provide the first win in seven games.

Darlington aren't exactly setting Division three alight this season but we've fallen to lower league opposition in recent years whilst officially a Division one side ourselves.

Jones has been quoted as stating that he will use the fixture to 'blood' players that haven't quite got to grips with the Premiership yet - i.e. nearly all of his summer signings!

Add to this it gives Jones the chance to rest some of the elder statesman and it has all the hallmarks of a reserve fixture.

Luzhny, Okoronkwo and Silas are expected to start. However, if they expect Darlington to allow them time on the ball and not give them a crafty elbow in the ribs then they'll be mistaken.

Darlington will see this as the perfect opportunity to make their mark and scalp a Premiership team to get their own season started in earnest.

The half price admission this evening is still unlikely to see the attendance rise above a four-figure gate.

Wolves can't even employ a 4-4-2 formation as Blake is unlikely to be risked ahead of Bolton and Camara has been ruled out. That means that only Iversen is on call as the only available striker and that's not saying much.

I'm expecting a dour game of football. There might be a confidence boosting win but it's a long way from the side and challenge that will be posed at the Reebok on Saturday.

Defeat would be a disaster as it would give the national press and soccer pundits even more ammunition to aim at us.

However, perhaps we can put our league form behind us and embark on a cup run :-)
