Craddock the new name linked to Wolves.

Last updated : 29 July 2003 By Dave Burgess

Having seen Paul Butler run ragged by the part time forwards of Morecambe, and with Isaac Okoronkwo still not training with the squad, it comes as no surprise that Wolves are looking for another centre back.

This time, we are trying to go back to one of our favourite hunting grounds, Sunderland.

Previous purchases of Paul Butler and Alex Rae have been reasonably successful and given the Mackems well-documented financial problems, Wolves are seeing what’s what.

Strange that we should see a statement on the club site stating that they are talking to the club before gauging the player’s own interest.

From what I can tell Craddock is one of the few players to come out of last season’s relegation with any sort of credibility. We’ve already seen Villa snap up two players from the North East in the last week, this time it’s our turn.

Craddock was born in Bromsgrove and may not feel that an imminent return is on the cards with his current employers.

For me, if Craddock signs, I think it signals the end for Butler when Lescott gets back to full fitness.

As well as this, the Iversen deal has gone very quiet, Baggio seems unlikely to join and we’re still not sure if Bordeaux are going to pinch Kameni.

It seems to me that we’re beginning to get a bit more desperate as the season approaches. Surely new faces should already be with the club to allow them to gel and get a full pre-season program under their belts?

Instead, we seem to be a club in turmoil.

Lacking strikers through injury, signings for permit and injury problems and general squad depth.

Tonight we face Yeovil.
The squad is similar to the one at Morecambe.

I doubt however, that the players risk turning in a repeat performance or else the alarm bells will be ringing for definite from the top of the Steve Bull stand tomorrow morning.
