Blake makes amends.

Well we left Blundell Park with the three points.

However, I’ve rarely been to a game where I’ve been looking at my watch wanting the game to end because it was that bad!

Apart from Blake’s goal the entire game lacked any sort of quality.

Perhaps it can be attributed to Grimsby battling for their Division 1 lives, or Wolves battling for another play-off position.

However, there were seldom any periods of the game when a stray pass to an opponent or completely off the pitch, didn’t occur. It was very scrappy.

Wolves started the game slowly and Mansaram was looking lively up front for the home side. Blake produced a great turn to take him into space but fired into the side netting.

However, just minutes later a great through ball from Miller allowed Blake to outpace the defence and fire a left foot rocket across Coyne and into the bottom corner.

After that a Kennedy whipped in a couple of great crosses that weren’t finished off by Ince then Miller.

Grimsby rarely threatened, apart from when Irwin passed back to Murray who had to win the tackle on the six-yard box to prevent an embarrassing
equaliser.

The referee wasn’t helping the game flow either. Bookings for Miller then Ince, suspended again, seemed harsh in comparison to the leniency afforded to the home team.

Half-time 1-0 up but requiring that killer second goal.

Blake had a chance early on in the second period but he was held back, unfairly, but still got a shot in that Coyne pushed over. Miller scored soon after but was offside.

So the game continued in its disjointed fashion for the remainder of the half towards a close.

Cooper was introduced for the ineffective Ndah on the right and made no difference.

Deano came on for Miller late on but it was more a case of hanging on, not that Grimsby really looked like scoring.

To me there seemed to be too many half-hearted tackles from players at times.

Final whistle and relief that I could go home!

Possibly Naylor or Butler for man of the match.

3 points makes up for the draw on Saturday and gives us a nice 6-point cushion over Norwich and Ipswich. We’ll have to play a lot better on Friday to avoid a Sky TV humiliation, as at times you couldn’t tell who were relegation threatened and who were promotion chasing.

If we do fail to get promotion it seems certain that we won’t have to go to Grimsby again next season. Nice fish and chips but the ground is terrible. I had a ticket in the restricted view category, behind a post, but there were enough spare seats for me to move. As well as that, it’s very cold next to the estuary!

It seems that the rollercoaster ride of the play-offs is coming our way after all. If you look at all four teams currently occupying the 3rd to 6th places we have the best current form.

Perhaps for once, we might be the outsiders who make it all the way..

Come on the Wolves!
