Unfortunately we were wrong in our assessment of the capabilities of our 2nd opponents over in Portugal, Marítimo.
Steve unfortunately upset a Maritimo fan and so I will put the record straight with a little bit of help from our friend Carlo Ramos.
Marítimo are not a Second Division side, they are in the Portuguese Primeira Liga and have been there for about 15 years.
Marítimo have a very talented squad of players having finished in the top 6 of the league, reaching the cup semi-final, only to lose to Sporting Lisbon 3-2 after extra time (having been 2-1 up in the 87th minute).
Season 2000-2001 Marítimo reached the cup final only to lose to FC Porto 2-0.
Last season Maritimo played Leeds United in the UEFA Cup and won 1-0 at home (but lost 3-0 in the return leg)
Therefore as you can see the 1-0 defeat that Wolves suffered wasn't that bad with all the above considered.
