When Peter was a child he originally played as a striker, he changed to defender due to there already being too many forwards in the squad.

Peter has made a total of 50 appearances since 2004 to this current date and has only played for Newcastle United in his career. Peter's contract will end in July 2008 and will be free to join any club he wishes.

Ramage made his first team debut, as a substitute in Newcastle's UEFA Cup in the last 16, in the second leg against Olympiakos Piraeus in March 2005, Newcastle won this game 4-0 in the end.

He was soon forced into the league side due to injuries to key players, making his first league start at Old Trafford in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in April 2005. This game is where he infamously set up Wayne Rooney's volley. He followed this up with several first team starts due to more injuries to other defenders in the Newcastle squad and went on to score 2 goals, one is a 30 yard screamer against Middlesbrough.

Ramage was a first team regular in the 2005/06 season, appearing in twenty-nine games. The injury to team-mate Stephen Carr allowed him to play a larger amount of games for the Magpies, as he made a good impression on both Graeme Souness and Glenn Roeder. As a result of these performances he allegedly caught the eye of former Scotland coach Walter Smith, but Peter is eligible to play for Scotland or England because of his background.
