"That was a point-saving save by their goalkeeper. If it had of gone in we'd have won the game," the Wolves boss said after the 1-1 draw at The Molineux.

"But I'm pleased with the way that we played as Sunderland are a good side.

"I think that they had the best of the opening ten minutes but after that we shaded it in terms of chances.

"It was a fantastic game and I think that it said volumes about both clubs."

As for making his peace with Sunderland counterpart Roy Keane, McCarthy added: "The only people who haven't been getting anything out of this have been Roy Keane and Mick McCarthy.

"We are both pleased with the way that things have been resolved."
