Iwelumo Back in Reserve Defeat

To be honest this was a typical stiffs match, plenty of nice touches and all that but just lacking that edge you get at a proper game; a bit like the difference between sparring and proper boxing i suppose. Stearman and big Chris both started and played for 45 minutes. Stears played centre back on the right and did ok, he looked pretty comfortable to be honest so i dont think he will be too far away from the first team squad. Big Chris looked a bit short of match fitness to me as he was not in the game a lot, so i think he needs a few more games in the reserves to get up to speed. But nice to see him back nevertheless.

The one player who caught my eye in the first half was Mendez-Laing who has got real pace and used it to good effect on the right wing. I didnt see so much of him in the second half although he seemed to be playing a bit more central by then. Ikeme looked solid also.

The only Chelsea player i recognised was Paulo Ferreira, the Portuguese International who played in his usual right back role, the rest of them seemed a mixture of young players from all over the globe. They hit the bar midway through the first half with a good shot inside the box and we were denied a goal towards the end of the first half with a very good move down the inside right.

Second half not much more to say really, Zele Ismail came on and played in midfield but he didnt really stand out on the night, although i would like to see him again. Chelsea scored the only goal of the night just as it looked as if it was going to be a score draw, towards the end with a fierce dipping shot in the area, well taken.

Wolves 0-1 Chelsea, att just over 900
