"Stephen's all-round performance was excellent," McCarthy said after the 0-0 draw.
"He did all the horrible jobs, he just needed the icing on the cake by tucking it away.
"But he was brilliant. His effort and running into the channels was terrific.
"We're not prolific - we know that. If we were, we'd be higher up the league. It's something we'll work on."
