(Fan's Blog) Blogging a dead horse?

Last updated : 28 April 2008 By SweeneyWolf

Last Saturday afternoon seemed strange. Strange because with no Wolves home game my usual routine is to stay glued to Jeff Stelling and the Sky Sports Saturday Soccer special boys with the other ear and eye on the BBC sport website. But last Saturday was different.

It was different and  weird bombing down the M1 listening to 5Live and or Talksport, realising how Premier League focused the coverage is but waiting for score updates from not only the Coventry v Wolves match at the Ricoh but all the other games that might have had a bearing on our play off aspirations.

Simple really, Wolves to win at Coventry and Palace to slip up at Hull. In my head I'd written off any help from Watford at home to lowly (and already relegated) Scunthorpe.  Even we can beat Scunthorpe at home.

But football rarely is that simple, is it?

S**t, bad start, Wolves 1-0 down to Coventry ( brain to Sweeney: "We won't score two without reply will we?" )

Good, and how ironic, Hull 1-0 against Palace... still there's plenty of time left, I thought, trying to retain some optimism.

S**t, Palace equalise, perhaps this is Warnock's year?  He's done well, look where they were when he took over. Mind you, it's easy in the first season, just ask MM.

Come on Wolves !!!  as if shouting at the car radio will make any difference.

Real drama in the Premier league is unfolding via the commentaries, but ask me if I care.

Bloody Bristol go one up at Bramall Lane, who said they were shaky?

Half time reports in... Wolves not doing much !  Hull and Palace 1-1, nicely poised.  Watford 0-0 with Scunny, well that won't last !

Second halves all start... "there's a penalty at the Ricoh" ( in that few seconds before I know which way, I think the worst, I always do).

SEB scores...  what a guy. S, what a buy. Suddenly it's game on... suddenly two goals needed become one... suddenly.. it can't be can it?

Watford 0 Scunthorpe ( lowly, already relegated ,Scunthorpe) 1 ...  Brain to Sweeney:"Hang on this is a bonus, but that won't last that"

Blades get 2, Bristol are on the slide... I fancy them in the playoffs... what playoffs ! We aint in the playoffs

The next 50 miles is spent willing a second Wolves goal, in vain as it happens.  WBA are up, if it stays like this, the guy on the radio says.

Hold the front page. Hull get a late one, turns out to be the winner.  Scunthorpe are hanging on too. Bristol are losing.

Full times, it's the dream scenario  all bar one result, but there is still hope.  Thank you Hull, thank you Scunny, lowly Scunny. The dream isn't dead.

Met a Watford fan at a McDonalds on the M25, I said, "What happened to your lot today?". He said " We were f**king s**t".

Now where have I heard that before !

C'mon you Seasiders, C'mon you Clarets.

Oh, nearly forgot, give us a home win you Wolves.
